Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — The Organizing Committee of the Saudi Arabia Winter Games 2029 has confirmed that preparations for the event are proceeding as planned. According to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the ambitious initiative aims to host a range of winter sports in a region typically associated with desert climates.

In a recent statement, the OCA highlighted the progress made thus far, noting that over 75% of infrastructure development is complete, including state-of-the-art facilities designed to accommodate athletes from around the world. The event is set to attract over 1,500 competitors, representing more than 30 countries.

“Saudi Arabia is committed to diversifying its economy and promoting winter sports in an innovative way,” said an OCA spokesperson. “Our preparations are progressing on schedule, and we are excited to welcome athletes and spectators in 2029.”

The Winter Games will feature a total of 7 sports disciplines, including skiing, ice hockey, and figure skating. Recent statistics show that participation in winter sports has increased by over 50% in Asia in the past five years, underlining the growing interest and potential for these activities.

With the 2029 Winter Games, Saudi Arabia aims to become a significant player in the global sports arena, leveraging these games as part of its broader Vision 2030 initiative to expand tourism and sports industries.
