JEDDAH — In an exciting clash, Ivan Toney scored the only goal as Al Ahli triumphed over RSL newcomers NEOM SC with a 1-0 victory, captivating over 40,000 fans at Alinma Stadium. This match was part of a surge in attendance, contributing to an overall increase in spectator numbers in the Saudi Pro League, which has seen a 20% rise compared to last season.

After clinching the Saudi Super Cup just a week prior, the Asian champions wasted no time in asserting their dominance in this season’s campaign.

Midway through the first half, Al Ahli’s new French signing Enzo Millot showcased his skills in midfield, creating an opening for Toney, who controlled the ball expertly and smoothly slotted it past goalkeeper Marcin Bulka.

The synergy between Millot’s vision and Toney’s clinical finishing is shaping up to be a formidable partnership as the season progresses.

NEOM SC made a spirited attempt to equalize in the second half, with Saimon Bouabre delivering a precise pass to Alexandre Lacazette. However, Édouard Mendy thwarted their efforts with an outstanding save, further solidifying his performance.

Mendy’s heroics earned him the Man of the Match accolade, while NEOM’s debut showed promising moments in their first top-flight encounter. The match statistics reflected a balanced game, with Al Ahli registering 52% possession and NEOM SC attempting 12 shots versus Al Ahli’s 10.
