KHAMIS MUSHAYT — NEOM Sports Club marked a significant milestone on Sunday by clinching their first-ever victory in the Roshn Saudi League, overcoming Damac with a score of 2-1, thanks to a late penalty by Alexandre Lacazette.

The French striker, one of NEOM’s marquee summer signings, played a pivotal role in the club’s historic win, scoring both goals in just their second top-flight match. Lacazette netted his first in the 30th minute, showcasing his attacking prowess. However, Damac quickly retaliated with Jesús Medina finding the back of the net in the 49th minute, leveling the game.

With tensions rising and the score tied, Lacazette calmly converted a penalty in the 83rd minute, restoring NEOM’s lead and ultimately securing all three points. This remarkable victory propelled NEOM to eighth place in the league standings, bouncing back from a tough opening-day defeat to Al Ahli. In stark contrast, Damac remains winless, accumulating just one point from their first two matches of the season.

In another fixture earlier in Riyadh, Al Riyadh narrowly defeated newly promoted Al Najmah 2-1. Despite the victory, the match was overshadowed by a late dismissal of Iraq international Ibrahim Bayesh during stoppage time.

As of now, NEOM’s victory marks a significant turning point as they adjust to the competitive landscape of the Roshn Saudi League, while Damac faces the challenge of regrouping to secure their first win.
