ORLANDO — Simone Inzaghi, the manager of Al Hilal, offered high praise for his players after their remarkable journey to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup, commending their resilience and impressive performances against elite teams.

The champions of the Roshn Saudi League concluded a momentous two weeks in the United States with displays that garnered global attention — opening with a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the group stage, followed by an astonishing 4-3 victory over English giant Manchester City in the Round of 16 after extra time.

Al Hilal exited the tournament in the quarter-finals after a gritty 2-1 loss to Brazil’s Fluminense on Friday, but they earned respect for their determination and offensive prowess.

“I commend my players for their valiant effort, both in tonight’s match and throughout the tournament,” stated Inzaghi, who assumed leadership of the club merely two weeks prior to the tournament’s commencement.

“They gave their all on the field this evening. While we feel regret, we also have much to be proud of.”

The Italian coach, previously with Inter Milan, expressed: “I take pride in leading Al Hilal and in each player on the team. I congratulated everyone, without exception, for the impressive level they showcased in the Club World Cup.”

Al Hilal’s tournament journey was characterized by audacious play and standout individual performances, particularly during their thrilling extra-time triumph over Pep Guardiola’s City, which is being celebrated as one of the most remarkable moments in Saudi club football history.

Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who netted a goal in that match, also lauded the team’s tenacity in challenging circumstances.

“Even with significant absences like Mitrovic, Salem Al Dawsari, and Hassan Al Tambakti, we delivered an outstanding performance and demonstrated that Saudi football is evolving and competing on a global level,” he remarked. “We are pleased with our achievements and carry our heads high.”

Koulibaly further noted: “We have proven that we possess a league capable of rivaling the world’s best.”

Al Hilal is now set to return to domestic competitions with their confidence at an all-time high, having showcased their strength on the international stage under a new coach who has quickly instilled faith in the team.
