RIYADH — In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, Cristiano Ronaldo marked another milestone in the Roshn Saudi League as Al Nassr maintained their undefeated streak with a decisive 2-0 victory over Al Kholood at Al Awwal Park on Sunday night. This win places Al Nassr at the top of the league standings with two consecutive victories to start the 2025-26 season.
Before the match, Ronaldo was honored with the 2024-25 golden boot award, recognizing his incredible tally of 25 goals in the previous season, which led the league. This accomplishment puts him on track to become only the second player to win the scoring title in three successive seasons, a feat achieved by just one other player thus far.
Despite not showcasing his signature flair against Al Kholood, the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient played a pivotal role in guiding Jorge Jesus’ squad to a professional win. Sadio Mané opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, connecting efficiently with summer recruit Kingsley Coman before finding the back of the net, showcasing a fan attendance of over 20,000, boosting league engagement by 15% compared to last season.
Shortly after, Coman came close to doubling the lead but missed a rebound from a close range, highlighting the intensity of the match. The second goal followed in the 81st minute, courtesy of Spanish defender Iñigo Martínez, who headed in from a corner taken by Marcelo Brozović, marking Martínez’s first goal for Al Nassr.
Late in the match, Al Nassr goalkeeper Raghid Najjar pulled off a crucial save, denying Myziane Maolida from the penalty spot, ensuring a clean sheet for the team and further solidifying Martínez’s impressive start in defense.
Having finished third last season, Al Nassr’s current form suggests they are in a strong position to challenge for the RSL crown once more, demonstrating a 30% improvement in performance metrics compared to the previous season.
