Saudi Arabia Launches Sport-Tourism Cruise Around Spanish Super Cup

Riyadh — A unique sport-and-tourism initiative has been officially announced by the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) in partnership with Aroya Cruises and Major Sports Cruises, combining high-level football and leisure travel for the first time in the Kingdom.

The collaboration will centre on the upcoming Spanish Super Cup competition, to be hosted in Jeddah in January 2026, with a tailored cruise experience that departs from Jeddah to Yanbu. Participants will enjoy a three-night sailing with football-themed hospitality, interactive gaming zones, cultural excursions in Saudi Arabia, and premium access to matchday events.

A New Kind of Sports Travel

Guests will board the cruise just after attending either the semifinals or final of the Spanish Super Cup, then explore Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coastline with curated experiences including historic city visits, premium fan zones, and live entertainment. STA described the plan as “bridging elite sport with authentic Saudi hospitality.”

Strategic Implications

This is more than a tourist package. It underscores Saudi Arabia’s push to diversify its sports-and-entertainment economy under the national Vision 2030 agenda. The initiative signals a move beyond single events towards integrated travel experiences anchored around sport.

What to Watch

  • The exact match and cruise schedule: Visitors can expect the football spectacle followed by immersive travel.
  • The impact on fan demographics: By blending travel, culture and sport, organisers aim to attract wider international audiences.
  • Future expansions: If successful, this kind of sport-tourism product may replicate around other major events hosted in the Kingdom.
