RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia (JCSA) has officially announced the upgrade of the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Cup for Purebred Arabians to Group 3 status. The international reclassification was formally granted by the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing (IFAHR) ahead of the start of the 2026 Taif Racing Season at King Khalid Racecourse.
The 2,000-meter feature race, scheduled to take place on September 25, 2026, has seen a steady rise through the international grading ranks since its inception. The prestigious contest has been won for the past two consecutive editions by the prominent Saudi Arabian equine star Tilal Al-Khalediah.
The Group 3 upgrade reflects the growing international stature and technical quality of purebred Arabian racing within the Kingdom. JCSA officials highlighted that the higher classification will attract stronger international and regional fields, enhancing the competitive depth of the summer season in Taif.
The promotion of the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Cup aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategic initiatives under Vision 2030 to develop its equestrian sector, elevate local racing infrastructure, and solidify the Kingdom’s position as a premier global hub for Arabian horse sport.
