RIYADH – In a thrilling display of skill at the Esports World Cup, Indian Grandmaster Nihal Sarin has advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the chess competition.
Sarin, representing S8UL Esports, achieved the feat by winning back-to-back matches in the lower bracket. He first defeated Anish Giri of the Netherlands with a clean 2-0 score. Following that, he faced France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, where he secured a crucial 1.5-0.5 victory. Sarin’s progression was sealed after he held his opponent to a draw with the black pieces in the first game and then claimed a win with the white pieces in the second.
He now joins fellow Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi in the quarterfinals, where they will compete for a share of the substantial USD 1.5 million prize pool.
