DOHA — In a thrilling display of football, Qatar has secured its spot for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 after a 2-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday night. This win allows the hosts of the 2022 World Cup to make their second consecutive appearance at the tournament. The decisive goals came from second-half headers by Boualem Khouki and Pedro Miguel, propelling Qatar through from Group A of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26 playoffs.
Outstanding performance came from Akram Afif, the reigning AFC Player of the Year, who significantly influenced the match at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. Afif delivered precise free kicks in the 49th and 74th minutes, both converted successfully by Khouki and Pedro.
