Al Hilal acquires Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez from Liverpool

RIYADH — Al Hilal has made a significant move in the football transfer market by signing Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez from Liverpool on a lucrative three-year contract.

The 26-year-old forward joins the Roshn Saudi League giants after an impressive career in Europe, highlighted by his contributions to Liverpool, where he helped the team secure a Premier League title in the 2024-25 season, an EFL Cup in 2024, and a FA Community Shield in 2022. During his tenure at Liverpool, the team achieved a remarkable win rate of approximately 63%.

Núñez previously made his mark at Benfica, where he was honored as the Portuguese League Player of the Year in 2021-22. That season, he topped the scoring charts with 26 goals and provided four assists, contributing to Benfica’s impressive scoring record which exceeded 80 goals in total.

Before moving to Europe, Núñez also enjoyed success with Peñarol, clinching back-to-back Uruguayan League titles in 2017 and 2018. He began his European journey with Spanish side Almería, where he further honed his skills.

On the international front, Núñez has earned 35 caps for Uruguay, scoring 13 goals and supplying three assists. He also proudly represented his country at the U20 and U22 levels, contributing to Uruguay’s strong football heritage.

Al Hilal confirmed that Núñez has already integrated with his new teammates during their preseason training camp in Germany, marking the beginning of a promising chapter in both his career and the club’s aspirations for the upcoming season.
