RIYADH — The Roshn Saudi League has made headlines once again as former FC Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez officially signs with Al Nassr on a free transfer, further enhancing the club’s roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. This announcement was confirmed early Sunday, revealing that the 34-year-old Spaniard has signed a one-year contract with the Riyadh-based club.

Martinez arrives at Al Nassr following a successful two-year stint at Barcelona, where he contributed to the team’s triumphs, including the 2024-25 La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. His solid defensive capabilities were honed during previous tenures at Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao, where he earned recognition as one of Spain’s most dependable defenders.

A seasoned player with 21 caps for the Spanish national team, Martinez played a key role in the squad that advanced to the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League final. His experience is expected to provide Al Nassr with a significant boost as the club aims to enhance its defensive lineup.

At Al Nassr, Martinez joins a new wave of talents, including the high-profile addition of Portugal international Joao Felix, as part of a strategy to elevate the team beyond last season’s third-place league finish. The club has also reinforced its coaching staff by appointing former Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus.

With the new Roshn Saudi League season set to kick off later this month, Al Nassr is targeting a more competitive campaign both domestically and on the continental stage, striving to improve its previous record and challenge for top honors.
