Al Hilal Pulls Out of 2025 Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong

KSAsportz report

RIYADH — The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) announced on Monday that it has received an official notification from Al Hilal Club regarding the team’s decision to withdraw from the 2025 Saudi Super Cup, which is set to be held in Hong Kong from August 19 to 23.

In its statement, SAFF mentioned that it will initiate the necessary procedures according to the tournament’s rules and governing statutes through the appropriate committees.

This issue will be addressed within the structure of the Saudi Super Cup, with the Competitions Committee assigned to finalize the official process.

Al Hilal’s choice follows the conclusion of its season in July, after an unprecedented journey in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. With limited time before the new season begins, head coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to give the squad a break, as preseason preparations have yet to commence.

SAFF reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the established regulations and ensuring the rights of all parties involved, adhering to its statutes approved by the General Assembly.

Insiders indicated that the federation is preparing to extend an invitation to Al Ahli to take Al Hilal’s place, contingent upon the club’s full readiness to compete. An official announcement is anticipated shortly.

The same sources clarified that SAFF has dismissed the idea of automatically allowing Al Qadsiah to progress to the final due to the lack of a semifinal opponent, emphasizing that such a situation would violate Article 8 of the tournament regulations.

According to Article 8, any club that withdraws after the official schedule has been announced will be deemed in violation and referred to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for evaluation.

The withdrawing club may face financial penalties of up to SR500,000 and be responsible for any damages or losses incurred, with SAFF determining the compensation amount.
