Al Hilal penalized and excluded from the upcoming Saudi Super Cup following their withdrawal

RIYADH — The Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has delivered a significant blow to Al Hilal, imposing a fine of SR500,000 and barring the club from the upcoming Saudi Super Cup. This decision follows Al Hilal’s withdrawal from this year’s tournament, marking a crucial moment in Saudi football. According to recent statistics, Al Hilal has won the Saudi Super Cup three times in the last five editions, highlighting the impact of their absence on the competition.

The penalties extend beyond the immediate fine, as all financial rewards allocated to Al Hilal from the 2025–2026 Super Cup have been withheld.

Al Hilal had previously announced its withdrawal from the tournament, which is set to take place in Hong Kong. The club cited a delayed start to pre-season preparations, attributed to its participation in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which could affect player performance and readiness in the coming season.

This withdrawal paves the way for Al Ahli to step in as Al Hilal’s replacement in the four-team competition, joining other prominent teams such as Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, and Al Qadsiah. This adjustment is expected to change the dynamics of the tournament significantly.

In a related ruling, the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has also fined Al Shabab SR125,000 and excluded the club from the next edition of the Women’s Saudi Super Cup due to its refusal to participate following the release of the competition schedule, further showcasing the committee’s strict stance on adherence to tournament regulations.
