RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Liverpool FC Sporting Director Richard Hughes is in advanced discussions to join Saudi Professional League club Al-Hilal, according to a report by journalist Sacha Tavolieri published on June 8, 2026.
Hughes, who initially joined Liverpool in June 2024 after serving as the Technical Director at AFC Bournemouth, is currently overseeing the Premier League club’s summer transfer operations. His recent management decisions at Anfield included overseeing the departure of manager Arne Slot and appointing former Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola as his successor.
According to Tavolieri’s report, negotiations between Hughes and Al-Hilal have progressed significantly. However, an immediate departure from the Merseyside club is not expected. The Riyadh-based club plans to allow Hughes to complete his recruitment obligations with Liverpool for the duration of the current European transfer window. The administrative transition to the Saudi Pro League side would take effect following the closure of the summer transfer window.
