RIYADH — In a significant move within the world of football, Al Nassr has officially confirmed the signing of Portuguese international João Félix from Chelsea. The announcement came on Tuesday, revealing a multi-year deal that extends through 2027, potentially worth up to €50 million with performance-related bonuses. According to industry sources, the upfront payment stands at €30 million, with the additional incentives hinging on various performance metrics, as reported by The Athletic.
The unveiling was marked by a short video shared on the club’s official X account, featuring Félix donning the team’s iconic yellow kit. In the video, he expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “I’m here to enjoy. Let’s win together.” This sentiment was echoed in the club’s caption, declaring: “Let’s win together… João Félix is now a Nassrawi.”
Félix’s arrival further strengthens Al Nassr’s renowned Portuguese core, which already includes national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo. The 25-year-old’s career has been marked by a series of ups and downs; after making headlines with a staggering €126 million transfer to Atlético Madrid in 2019 — then a record sum — he struggled to consistently meet lofty expectations.
During his loan stint at Chelsea in 2023, Félix managed to score seven goals across 20 appearances. Following a permanent move by Chelsea in 2024, competition for playing time led to a reduction in his role on the field. A brief loan to AC Milan resulted in three goals and one assist over 21 matches during the latter half of the 2024-25 season. Although he expressed interest in remaining with the Serie A club, AC Milan opted against pursuing a permanent transfer.
Recently left out of Chelsea’s squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Félix found a timely opportunity in Saudi Arabia. Al Nassr’s interest in the player grew as the transfer window progressed, bolstered by the persuasive efforts of both Ronaldo and head coach Jorge Jesus, who played vital roles in enticing Félix away from a potential return to his former club, Benfica.
Looking ahead, Al Nassr is set to face off against Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semifinals on August 19, where Félix may make his competitive debut. This match could be pivotal, marking the start of a new chapter in his career as he seeks to leave an indelible mark in the Saudi Pro League.
