Aqeel Al Jassim secures Saudi Arabia’s inaugural medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Riyadh — In a remarkable display of strength and skill, Saudi weightlifter Aqeel Al Jassim has clinched the Kingdom’s first medal at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games, earning a silver on the second day of weightlifting competitions held at the Riyadh City Boulevard. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Saudi athletes in the event.

Al Jassim excelled in the 60 kg category, lifting an impressive 124 kg in the snatch competition. He finished just behind Indonesia’s representative, who took home the gold with a lift of 129 kg. Turkey’s competitor secured the bronze with a lift of 119 kg. Notably, in the overall standings, the competition featured over 200 athletes from 22 countries, showcasing the growing talent in the region.

In the women’s events, Saudi weightlifters Ghada Al-Tassan and Yasmine Al-Mahfouz wrapped up their participation with commendable performances. Al-Tassan placed seventh in the 48 kg category, lifting a total of 117 kg—52 kg in the snatch and 62 kg in the clean and jerk. Meanwhile, Al-Mahfouz secured sixth place in the 53 kg category, with a total lift of 130 kg (59 kg in the snatch and 71 kg in the clean and jerk), contributing to the Kingdom’s visibility among elite athletes.

The Saudi team’s campaign continues tomorrow as they look to build on this momentum with Siraj Al-Sulayem competing in the 65 kg event, Fatima Al-Khawahir in the 58 kg category, and Ali Al-Hiwar in the 71 kg division. As the competition intensifies, the hopes of a nation rest on the shoulders of these emerging athletes.
