JEDDAH — FC Barcelona secured their 16th Spanish Super Cup title on Sunday night following a 3-2 victory against Real Madrid at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium, marking the third consecutive year the tournament has reached its conclusion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The match, attended by a near-capacity crowd in Jeddah, saw Barcelona take an early lead through a strike from Raphinha. Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior equalized shortly after, initiating a high-intensity period before the halftime interval. Robert Lewandowski restored Barcelona’s advantage with a second-half goal, while Gonzalo Garcia scored in stoppage time to bring the sides level once more. The definitive winning goal was recorded late in the match, ensuring the trophy remained with the Catalan side following their 5-2 victory in the previous season’s final at the same venue.
According to official match data, the event marks a continued partnership between the Saudi Ministry of Sport and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to host the four-team tournament in the Kingdom. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Sport’s broader “Quality of Life” program, aiming to establish Saudi Arabia as a premier destination for international elite-level sporting events.
“We are very happy to win another trophy here; it is always a significant result against Madrid,” Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski stated in a post-match interview with Movistar.
The event concludes a week-long tournament in Jeddah that included semi-final fixtures earlier in the week. The focus of the Saudi football calendar now shifts back to domestic competition, with the Roshn Saudi League (RSL) scheduled to resume this evening, including a highly anticipated fixture between Al Hilal and Al Nassr at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
