RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – As the professional tennis circuit reaches its midpoint, Riyadh is preparing to host the 55th edition of the WTA Finals from November 7 to 14, 2026.
This year’s tournament, held at the King Saud University Indoor Arena, marks the third consecutive year the season-ending championships have been staged in the Saudi capital, solidifying the city’s status as a premier destination for elite women’s athletics. The 2026 edition features a record-breaking prize pool of $15.5 million, the highest on the WTA circuit.
An undefeated singles champion stands to earn over $5.2 million, underscoring the significant financial investment into the sport. Beyond the prize money, the event is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s strategy to grow women’s tennis, following a reported rise in local sports participation and interest across the Middle East. Defending champion Elena Rybakina, who secured the 2025 title in a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Aryna Sabalenka, currently leads the qualifying race. As of May 2026, the elite eight-player field is projected to include world number one Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff.
