RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC) and Extreme H officially announced a strategic partnership on April 24, 2026, to integrate hydrogen-powered racing into the Saudi Arabian motorsport calendar. The agreement was confirmed by Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and SMC, and Alejandro Agag, founder of Extreme H.
Extreme H is scheduled to launch in 2026 as the first off-road racing series utilizing hydrogen fuel cell technology. Under the terms of the partnership, Saudi Arabia will host the inaugural race of the 2026 season. The series will feature the Pioneer 25 racing vehicle, which utilizes a hydrogen fuel cell produced by Symbio to deliver a power output of 400kW (550hp).
The technical framework of the partnership includes the development of local hydrogen infrastructure, including refueling stations and storage systems, to support the requirements of the competition. This initiative is part of a broader program to implement sustainable technology in regional sports and aligns with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative regarding carbon emission reduction.
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has accorded World Championship status to Extreme H for its debut season. The partnership also includes provisions for technical training for Saudi nationals in hydrogen propulsion systems.
